Lactation consultant helping you reach your breastfeeding goals!

My son Ryan with his first child, Victoria.  Even dad's are great at "baby wearing"!

Pre-Natal Consult

Congratulations on your pregnancy!  Have you decided to breastfeed? Or are you gathering more information so that you may make a decision that is best for you? Schedule a 'class' with me!

Not everyone will need Lactation support before the baby is born.  Many women have their own family and friends who can offer information, advice and support. Until breastfeeding is the "norm", though,  many women do not have anyone close by who has experience with breastfeeding.  These women could benefit from a personalized Pre-Natal Consultation at about 30 to 33 weeks.  This visit would be comparable to a Breastfeeding Class, only it's private and customized to you.  Bonus, I come to you.

Babies R Us now offers many classes for free to new parents and parents to be.  Breastfeeding Preparation Classes are offered once each month at each location.  I teach the class at the Oxford Valley Langhorne location and the Woodhaven Mall Bensalem location.

Call your Babies R Us to find out dates and times.  Registration is encouraged.

What is included in a Pre-Natal Consultation?

  • Information about the benefits of breastfeeding for mom and baby
  • Information about what to expect in those first hours, and days
  • How to read your baby's feeding cues
  • Assessment of factors that may put the mother at risk for breastfeeding problems
  • How to know when you might need to ask for help
  • Development of a plan for the early post-partum period (and assistance to write this breastfeeding plan to include with your birth plan if so desired)
  • Unlimited email and phone support up to and including the first few days post-partum.

This visit will last approximately 45 minutes  to an hour.  (counseling is $125 for first hour)

Will my insurance cover the cost?  I am contracted with Aetna and Independence Blue Cross.  I am able to bill them in most circumstances.  Individual Plans may vary in coverage, but most Aetna plans cover 6 visits and most Blue Cross (specifically Personal Choice and Keystone Health plan East)   plans cover unlimited number of visits.

Per the Affordable Care Act: Coverage Includes Comprehensive Lactation Support and Counseling by a trained (IBCLC) provider during pregnancy and or in the post-partum period; and costs for rental or purchase of Breastfeeding Equipment. However, insurance plans that have been grandfathered, are exempt at this time.

You will have to contact your insurer to find out the specifics of your coverage. Click the link below for specific questions to ask your insurance provider. If your provider is Aetna, this personalized pre-natal breastfeeding class with count as one of your six visits.

I will provide you with a receipt for payment that includes: The appropriate CPT and ICD-9 codes; My NPI, EIN, and IBCLC numbers;  the amount you paid me and the date.

Travel fee is NOT reimbursable by insurance
